Smart Buddy: People look at this product as a buddy finder, but they don’t always load user names of people they sit with. When you sit with a player you like, jot them down and write some notes on them. The next time they sit, you’ll be instantly able to see where they’re playing. If you do it with multiple players, you can attach a player viewer, which shows you how many players are sitting at the same table. It’ll let you know where they’re sitting, current stack sizes, flop percentages, and so forth. It’s a great tool for table selection more than anything else.

PokerSoftware.com: Smart Buddy has several different applications, from table selection to finding fish. What do you find that most players use it for?

Smart Buddy: They use it as a buddy list for locating friends or players they enjoy playing with. Some people multi-table, so they can use this tool to know where their opponents are playing. If someone is playing 20 tables at a time, they’re probably playing based on position and card values. So, you can sit down with that person and take advantage of it.

PokerSoftware.com: What do you see as the future of the buddy list market?

Smart Buddy: Adding a chat feature with your friends is a possible option. Getting into table selection for tournaments and sit and gos could also be in the works. We already allow you to import your buddy list from PokerTracker and other database tools. We also can provide you with additional information from your own database. Interestingly, we don’t get a lot of feature requests anymore. Our customers seem to be happy with what they have.

Smart Buddy: Literally, every day we get a handful of e-mails stating how wonderful our products are. These are similar to, “I love Smart Buddy. I wish I had bought it sooner.” Some say, “You guys need to charge more for the product. It’s too cheap. That’s why I didn’t buy it originally.”

We talked about going up in price, but you try it and see what works. We once charged $3.99 for it and the general response was that it’s too cheap. That’s why you can buy it monthly for $7.99 or a $49.99 one-time fee and we don’t have any limits on what you can do.
